A new cargo port is to be built in Vlčie Hrdlo in Bratislava, which, according to the vision of the investor Win-Port Invest, is strengthening Bratislava's international commercial and transport importance. The non-parliamentary party Democrats has submitted an initiative to the General Prosecutor's Office (GP) of the Slovak Republic in connection with the planned Harbor Park trimodal port project, reports Yimba.sk.
Nevertheless, it was already clear during the September presentation that the grandiose plan would not only bring positive reactions. According to Democrats, GP is supposed to examine the construction of a development project, which may require massive logging in the Dunajské luhy. Win-Port Invest disagrees with the claims, talking about a political attack, rumours and lies.
With the initiative, the party is reacting to the illegality of the decision of the Office for Spatial Planning and Construction of the Slovak Republic, which rejected the capital city's attempt to set aside this location in the city master plan for green protection and recreation. Democrats remind that almost 100,000 trees and 90 hectares of unique floodplain forests in Bratislava may fall victim to the intended development project. The planned trimodal Harbor Park is to be a combination of ship, rail and road transport. The project is to include a harbour pool and a connected logistics park with halls and infrastructure.
The investor strongly rejects that 100,000 trees and 90 hectares of floodplain forest should be cut down. It also refers to several surveys that it had prepared.
Harbor Park is described by the investor as an ambitious project that will return Bratislava to the map of river trade and place it in the natural environment of historical routes and Danube ports, where it has always belonged. It also reminds that the European Commission considers the construction of new ports, modernization and completion of river infrastructure to be the most ecological way of transportation. The Prosecutor General's Office of the Slovak Republic confirmed that it will deal with the initiative submitted on 6 November.
