Retail parks drive Poland’s retail supply growth

Retail parks have been the biggest beneficiaries of the structural retail changes in Poland over the last ten years. Their number has doubled and increased their share in total retail stock by 4 pps. In H1 2020, developers completed nearly 148,000 sqm of modern retail space in large scale projects (GLA>5,000 sqm). Of this new supply, 67% was delivered in the shape of eight new retail parks and three extensions of existing schemes. Almost 450,000 sqm of GLA is still under construction with initial completion dates set for 2020 and 2021. Retail parks account for nearly 26% of this volume. JLL and Trei Real Estate Poland summarised the situation regarding these projects at the end of H1 2020, and outlined the development prospects for this commercial real estate sector in Poland.

CPIPG announces dismissal of US lawsuit

CPI Property Group published an update regarding the lawsuit filed in April 2019 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. The lawsuit concerned a group of Kingstown companies, Investhold LTD and Verali Limited (who filed a claim against CPIPG and Mr. Radovan Vitek and other parties alleging violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act in the United States. On 4 September 2020, the SDNY Court dismissed the claims against all defendants and directed the clerk of court to close the case.

Warimpex increases revenues from office properties

Warimpex achieved a positive operating result (EBITDA) in the first half of 2020 despite losses in the hotel segment due to the coronavirus. This can be attributed primarily to the earnings contribution from the rental of office properties – this segment saw a 15% increase in revenues compared with the prior-year period. Following the posting of property impairments and currency losses, this led to a loss of €21.7 million for the first half of 2020, including a result of minus €3.0 million for the second quarter of 2020.

New leases

  • JD Group-owned brands JD Sports and Sizeer are strengthening their presence in EPP-managed shopping centres. The group's latest agreements and extensions covered a total of nearly 1.7 thousand sqm - in Kalisz's Galeria Amber, Kielce's Galeria Echo and Szczecin's Galaxy.
  • Poznan's Galeria Panorama, which the Balmain Group is commercialising, has expanded its portfolio with the addition of an Action brand store, a Dutch non-food discount chain. The Action store has taken over 1,000 sqm of space.
  • BWF Poland, a manufacturer of textile filter materials and plastic products, has leased 2,400 sqm of warehouse and office space at the Silesian Logistics Centre BIK Sosnowiec III (southern Poland).

New appointments

  • Marcin Janik has taken up the position of head of the southern Poland region at CBRE. He will be responsible for Silesia, Małopolska and the previously serviced Wrocław.
  • GTC Group has appointed Miklos Egri as Chief Operating Officer. The new manager will be responsible for the company's day-to-day operational and administrative management in the Central and Eastern European markets.
  • Paulina Petynka has joined the team of Yareal Polska, taking on the position of Leasing Director. She has more than 20 years of professional experience.
