Poles still bet on discount stores

More than 60% of Polish consumers do their larger grocery shopping in excess of PLN 100 in discount stores. A similar proportion of people in Poland opt for shopping centres on account of their entertainment offer, while nearly 40% go to retail parks which they value for familiarity with space layouts - a guarantee of a quick and easy shopping trip. According to the latest report from Cushman & Wakefield, Polish people have clearly defined expectations about each retail format, with each likely to respond to different shopping and other needs.

EPP and Echo secure €145.2 million refinancing for Galeria Młociny

EPP and Echo Investment have secured a loan of €145.2 million for the new financing of the Galeria Młociny shopping centre located in Warsaw. Erste Bank Group AG (Austria), Rand Merchant Bank, a division of FirstRand Bank Limited (Republic of South Africa) and Santander Bank Polska (Poland) acted as arrangers of the new credit facility, with Santander Bank Polska also acting as Facility Agent, Security Agent and Account Bank.

Marriott International to expand Polish portfolio with 10 projects

Marriott International, Inc., announced its plans to expand its portfolio in Poland with the expected addition of more than 10 properties in the next few years, including the debut of two brands - Le Méridien and Element Hotels by Westin - in the market. The anticipated openings will further enhance the company’s footprint in the country, where it currently has a portfolio of 24 properties and over 4,500 rooms across 12 brands and eight cities - Warsaw, Sopot, Kraków, Poznań, Katowice, Wrocław, Gdynia and Szczecin.

New leases

  • Piotr Kalisz has joined Knight Frank Polska, where he will take over the management of the Tenant Representation Department in Warsaw.
  • 7R Park Poznań West has been fully leased. The latest tenants are Still, a supplier of forklifts and warehouse technology, and Cycle, a company offering services for electric bicycles. Both companies will occupy a total of 6,800 sqm of space.
  • Eurocash Group is staying at the Warsaw office complex Diuna from the portfolio of PineBridge Benson Elliot and Syrena Real Estate for the next few years.The company has signed an agreement to lease four floors in Building A, totalling nearly 4,600 sqm of space.

New appointments

  • Polski Związek Firm Deweloperskich (Polish Association of Property Developers) elected new authorities at its general meeting in Katowice. Maciej Wandzel was elected chairman of the board. He will replace Grzegorz Kiełpsz, who became honorary president of the PZFD.
  • Piotr Herian has taken up the position of ISS CFO for Poland and the Baltics. ISS is a leading company in the creation of friendly workplaces and comprehensive facilities management.
  • Paulina Strutyńska has been promoted to the position of Leasing & Asset Director at Skanska’s commercial development business unit. She is now responsible for leasing processes in the Warsaw market as well as Key Customer Management. Agnieszka Krawczyk-Rogowska is responsible for project commercialization and client liaison in Gdańsk, Kraków, and Bucharest, while Marek Stasieńko is responsible for the Wrocław, Poznań, and Łódź markets.
