Rise of retail parks in Poland continues

Although the Polish retail market is still struggling with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, forecasts for the sector are more optimistic than for the rest of Europe. According to Oxford Economics, retail sales in Poland are expected to grow by 4.9% per annum until 2023, which would put Poland in a leading position in Europe. 2021 is expected to see approximately 209,000 sqm of GLA solely in retail parks come onto the market, meaning that 2021 would be a record breaking year for retail parks in terms of space delivered to the market. JLL and Trei Real Estate Poland, the authors of the 2nd edition of the "Retail parks and convenience centers in Poland" report, summarize the market regarding these projects at the end of H1 2021, and outline the development prospects for this sector in Poland.

New leases

  • Hillwood Polska has relocated its office to Warsaw's Plac Małachowskiego office building. The company will occupy space on the fifth floor of the building.
  • Primark is opening its seventh shop in Poland. Another outlet of the chain will be opened in the Zielone Arkady shopping centre in Bydgoszcz. The store will occupy a total retail space of 3,200 sqm on two floors.
  • GTC in collaboration with The Shire Beyond Coworking, is isopening a new coworking space in Korona Office Complex in Kraków.

New appointments

  • Bartłomiej Polnik has joined Savills as Associate Director, Senior Project & Development Manager PRS & Living Sectors in the PBC department.
  • Stage Capital has announced the appointment of Jacek Kołodziejski as Country Director in Poland. His role is to manage Stage Capital's retail property portfolio in Poland and to guide the growth of its value through expansion of existing facilities and acquisitions with growth potential.
  • Tomasz Waligórski will take over as General Manager of the Carrefour chain in Poland from 1 November. In this function, he will replace the previous, long-standing director of the Polish branch, Tareck Ouaibi.
