Local retail chain operator La Cocoș has opened its fourth hypermarket in Brașov. The company has leased 10,000 sqm for the new unit in the Brintex complex, in a deal brokered by Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.
The retailer recorded sales of around 1 billion lei (€201 million) in 2023 and plans to open five more units across the country by the end of 2025.
“The food retail market is extremely competitive considering the presence of major international networks, as well as local businesses which have managed to establish themselves as important players,” said Dana Radoveneanu, Head of Retail Agency at Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.
The first La Cocoș store opened in 2014, in Ploiești and the retailer started to expand in 2020, first in Bucharest.
In 2022, the hypermarket/supermarket chains in Romania reported a cumulative turnover growth of 18.2% in 2022, according to Cushman & Wakefield Echinox data.
