Retail developers go for regional cities in Romania

The Romanian retail market continued to expand in 2016 with total stock reaching 1.22 million sqm in Bucharest and 2.3 million sqm in regional cities. For 2017 no major retail project is scheduled for completion in the capital, while 130,000 sqm are expected to be delivered in regional cities. DTZ Echinox Romania published its retail reports for 2016.

Retailers continue to expand in Poland

Poland’s total retail stock stood at nearly 14 million sqm at year-end 2016. Shopping centres continue to dominate the market, accounting for 73% of the country’s stock, followed by retail warehouses (18%), retail parks (8%) and outlet centres (1%). Last year’s new supply totalled 460,600 sqm, of which more than three-fourths were delivered across shopping centres. Twenty two new retail schemes were opened in 2016: 15 shopping centres, the largest being Posnania in Poznań (99,000 sqm) and Galeria Metropolia in Gdańsk (34,000 sqm), two retail parks and five standalone retail warehouses. Extensions and redevelopments of 13 existing schemes provided 74,000 sqm of leasable space, making up 16% of the total annual supply. Cushman & Wakefield presented its latest report on Poland’s retail market.

C&W manages one more Czech shopping centre

With effect from this January, Cushman & Wakefield is the manager of both shopping centres in Mladá Boleslav. Both Olympia Mladá Boleslav, which Cushman & Wakefield has been managing since 2015, and Bondy shopping centre are now under the management of one company. CPI Property Group owns both centres.

New tenant for AFI Palace Cotroceni

German fashion retailer Peek&Cloppenburg has leased 5,200 sqm in the extension of the AFI Palace Cotroceni shopping mall in Bucharest. Extension work to add 6,800 sqm of GLA to the mall is to be completed in May, bringing the total leasable area up to approximately 90,000 sqm. Peek&Cloppenburg’s new store is set to open this autumn.

CBRE to manage M7’s new Hungarian portfolio

The Budapest office of CBRE has been appointed property manager and leasing agent of M7 Real Estate’s new Hungarian property portfolio. M7 Real Estate has acquired two retail centres, the Atom Center in Paks and Csillagvár in Budapest, and the Acélforma industrial hall in Dunaharaszti. The British investor has commissioned CBRE with the management and leasing of almost 22,000 sqm of GLA.

Immofinanz announces three new Stop Shop locations in Serbia

Immofinanz is continuing the expansion of its Stop Shop retail park chain in Serbia. Three new locations will be added in Požarevac, Lazarevac and Vršac, with a total of 23,800 sqm of rentable space. The individual projects are in different stages, but should all be completed before the end of 2017.

Knight Frank commercialises High5ive in Krakow

Knight Frank has been appointed leading agent by Skanska to commercialize the retail ground floors of all five buildings of the High5ive complex in Kraków. The project developed by Skanska Property Poland will be handed over for use in stages. The first stage, which will include two buildings right next to the Galeria Krakowska shopping centre, is scheduled for the end of 2017.

Polish retail market continues to expand

2016 was marked by the wait for the Posnania shopping centre to open, with its 60,000 sqm of Gross Leasable Area (GLA). However, next year we will see the opening of as many as three buildings with an area of over 60,000 sqm of GLA: Galeria Północna in Warsaw, Wroclavia and Forum Gdańsk.

Colliers International expects to see new names on the market, especially among Polish brands.

New leases

  • Amsterdam Standard, a Dutch technology company has moved into Kraków's Porto Office B office building. Its new office occupies nearly 600 sqm.
  • The brands Join UP! and SkyUpTM, previous tenants of space in the Adgar Wave office building in Warsaw, are relocating. They will continue to rent offices from Adgar Poland. The companies have moved into a 900-square-metre office previously occupied by employees of the building's owner.
  • An electronics manufacturer has leased nearly 11,000 sqm of manufacturing space at Prologis Park Wrocław V. The tenant belongs to a larger group of companies based in Hong Kong.This is the company's first headquarters in Poland.

New appointments

  • Dariusz Blocher has resigned from the position of chair of Unibep. The supervisory board has appointed Andrzej Sterczyński as president of the company from January 1st, 2025.
  • Agnieszka Słomka-Gołębiowska has resigned from her position as a member of the Supervisory Board and chair of the Audit Committee of Ghelamco Invest. The position of member of Ghelamco's Supervisory Board will be filled by Lidia Jabłonowska-Luby. An existing member of the Audit Committee, Jarosław Myjak, was also appointed to act as chairman of the Audit Committee.
  • MLP Group is from now on working with a smaller board of directors. Monika Dobosz has resigned from her position. She had served on the company's board since July 2022, when she was appointed to the board together with Agnieszka Góźdź.
