Sales of lands, homes and apartments in Romania rose by a yearly rate of 16% to 698,756 units in 2021, with a peak of 74,429 transactions recorded in December, according to the National Agency for Cadastre and Real Estate Publicity (ANCPI).
Last December, most sales were registered in Bucharest (14,438), Ilfov (4,902) and Constanța (3,950) counties.
The number of mortgages nationally in December 2021 was 28,924, down 2,204 compared to December 2020.
Demand for residential units in Romania started to climb after the initial pandemic shock, while prices also climbed due to rising construction costs and insufficient stock.
Meanwhile, land transactions for commercial and residential projects reached a 15-year high of €800 million in 2021.
