The construction and development group Metrostav is buying the South Bohemian company Reno Šumava, which operates three quarries in South Bohemia and has its own construction company. The merger is currently being assessed by the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS), writes local daily e15.cz.
Metrostav is buying the South Bohemian quarry operator at a time when the Czech construction industry is facing a shortage of stone. "The proposed merger of the competitors takes place mainly in the areas of civil engineering and building construction, operation of stone quarries and implementation of construction contracts with a focus on the supply of traffic signing and signalling services, including the installation of traffic signal systems. A decision in the above case has not yet been issued," the authority said to e15.cz.
In addition to the Czech Republic, Metrostav also operates abroad. Last year, foreign business contributed more than 25 percent to the Group's total consolidated turnover. Among the most important foreign achievements last year were the completion of the Bad Cannstatt railway tunnels in Stuttgart, the completion of the Volmarstein bridge on the A1 motorway in Dortmund, Germany, and the award of contracts for the construction of a more than half-kilometre-long reinforced concrete bridge and motorway tunnel in Norway. The Metrostav Group consists of 80 companies operating in the construction and development industry. In addition to Metrostav itself, these include the construction company Subterra and Metrostav Development. The main shareholders of the group are DDM Group, which holds a majority stake, and DOAS SK.
