The Q5 Gallery has been a new addition to the Mešice art hub located on the outskirts of Prague. The event and conference space is serving companies located in Q Park Měšice in a non-traditional industrial environment.
Q Park Měšice is located 15 km northeast of the centre of Prague. After several years of extensive revitalisation, it was transformed from a dilapidated industrial area into a modern office, production and warehouse complex. 20 buildings on 16 hectares offer space in a first-class standard. It encompasses about 35,000 sqm of warehouses, 6,000 sqm of offices and 20,000 sqm of parking areas.
In addition to commercial companies, the industrial park houses an art zone focused on visual arts. Q Park Měšice is home to Artefin (a fine art gallery and the seat of an investment fund of qualified investors), Artex (a depository for the storage of works of art and specialised transportation of art) and a duty-free zone for art objects, the only one in Central Europe. The complex adaptation of the smaller administrative building to the Q5 Gallery is another part of this transformation.
Of the original office premises from the 90s of the last century, only the most necessary elements (supporting structure, core and staircase with elevator shaft) were preserved. Thanks to the sensitive intervention of architect Jan Vojtěch from the Labor13 studio, a large open space was created. The entire interior gives the impression of a cafe combined with an art gallery. The space also includes two thematic lounges for closed meetings.
"Q5 Gallery is not a classic exhibition space. It is a place for organising events, lectures and trainings. In Q5 Gallery, we include selected artworks of the Czech and Slovak authors," says René Rohan, curator of Artefin and Q5Gallery.
