Czech online retailer alza.cz has opened a new self-service concept store at Prague’s Flora metro station. The retailer has branded the new concept ‘the store of the future’. The store, which is able to serve 1,000 costumers daily, operates with no staff and offers 24-hour accessibility.

Besides functioning as a pick-up point for online orders, customers have access to 80 percent of retailer’s product portfolio for on the sport purchases. After the completion of payment, customers are directed to a room with hundreds of lockers to the one containing the purchased product. Customers can contact staff via video terminals.

If the concept is successful, alza.cz plans to open similar stores in other locations in Prague. Plans for regional cities and other markets (Slovakia, Austria and Hungary) are not known at this stage.
