Brno has acquired a document essential for the city's development. The new city master plan, which has been in preparation for more than 20 years, has come into force, reports newstream.cz.
The document ensures the protection of selected localities and so-called stabilised areas, and at the same time enables the construction of new neighbourhoods with an emphasis on connecting housing, work and leisure activities.
In June 2022, the representatives did not approve the finished master plan and had it reworked again. The council approved the new proposal last December. "Almost 40 hectares will be added to the development areas, which creates significant opportunities for new projects," said Petr Bořecký, Councillor for spatial planning at the City of Brno.
The new master plan will offer the possibility of using more than 100 brownfields and building homes for up to 170,000 new residents. The expansion of the city, where 400,000 people now live, is, however, also subject to the construction of transport or technical infrastructure and civic amenities. The document will also simplify the construction of flood protection measures.
One of the projects that could be created in the near future is a 144-meter-high building called H Tower. It should grow next to Brno's AZ Tower. The building should include "short-term and long-term accommodation, offices and, in a horizontal 3-story base, retail." The top of the building should be accessible to the public and it could include a restaurant or a club.
