As climate change progresses, cities are trying to find ways to eliminate overheating of urban areas. They are striving to preserve a pleasant environment for residents and all fauna and flora even in places with dense construction. Blue-green infrastructure building is considered to be a good option.

Passerinvest Group has been developing blue-green infrastructure in Prague's Brumlovka for a long time. It expands its projects with, for example, roof gardens, systems for retaining rainwater allowing it to be absorbed or used as irrigation, and it builds public spaces including extensive greenery and many multi-purpose water features. Passerinvest believes that the measures implemented in Brumlovka to mitigate the overheating of the city and buildings and at the same time to support biodiversity can be an inspiration for city officials and other designers and investors. For Passerinvest Group, the long-term sustainability of the location is one of the fundamental pillars of the company's ESG strategy.

"The first roof garden in the Brumlovka area was created at the beginning of the construction of Brumlovka, namely on the Alpha building in 2003. We were pioneers at the time and started to create green roofs on office buildings. Similar concepts were not common then," says Martin Unger, Technical director & ESG at Passerinvest Group.

Properly maintained blue-green infrastructure in Brumlovka has many benefits both for the local microclimate and the viability of the environment, and for the entire location. In the critical summer months, it can reduce the temperature here by up to 10-15°C. Vegetation on green roofs, which consists of both tall greenery and lower leafy shrubs, perennials and grasses, together with excess water collected in storage tanks, humidifies the air. At the same time, the water from the reservoirs is used to irrigate other greenery, which plays an important role in supporting the development of biodiversity and creates a natural area for a wide range of animals. Building B in Brumlovka also received an award in the Green Roof of the Year competition for the development of blue-green infrastructure.
