Property investments in Romania totaled €919.4 million during 2021, with Austrian investment dominating the rank among foreign players closing deals on the local market. Last year, Austrian investors bought office and retail spaces with a combined value of €323 million. Czech and Hungarian property players had shares of €173 million and €150 million, respectively, according to a report by real estate consultancy Fortim, a member of BNP Paribas Real Estate Alliance.
“Both in Romania and across the European Union, there has been an increase in the activity of domestic and regional investors, to the detriment of those from the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific who are no longer as active (due to the pandemic). Investors from the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific accounted for only 8% in Romania, compared to 20% in 2019. At EU level, investment from these regions also fell to 15% of the total amount during 2021, down from 22% in 2019,” said Bogdan Cange, Managing Partner – Business Development at Fortim Trusted Advisors.
Investments made by Romanian companies in the real estate market totaled €119.5 million last year. For this year, the estimated transaction volume could top €1 billion.
