French hospitality group Accor is expanding its portfolio in Hungary and further strengthening its presence in the Eastern region of the country. The group will open an ibis Styles hotel at Debrecen Airport. The new hotel will welcome its first guests in 2025.
Thanks to the agreement signed with Xanga Investment and Development Group, one of the largest investment and development groups in Eastern Hungary, Accor will open an Ibis Styles hotel in the second largest city in Hungary. The facility will be the first hotel in the vicinity of Debrecen International Airport, the second busiest airport in the country.
“Debrecen is a significant leisure and cultural destination in Hungary, as well as a key business and economic centre of the Eastern Region, with huge potential for economic development. It is a unique opportunity for us to brand the first hotel at Debrecen International Airport, as well as – following the recent opening of Mercure Debrecen – to consolidate our presence in the city and further expand our regional network,” says Dilek Sezer, Development Director, South Eastern Europe Accor.
The newly built property will offer 73 rooms and 20 apartments located over 4 floors. Guests could also benefit from restaurants, bars and café, while business travellers can enjoy meeting facilities. The hotel is set to open in the second half of 2025.
The passenger traffic at the airport is increasing dynamically. The record level was in 2019, the last year before the COVID-19 pandemic, with 600,000 passengers using the airport. The number of passengers registered in 2022 exceeded 250,000, the expected number is 300,000 for 2023. Industry estimates predict that passenger traffic could recover to the 2019 level by around 2025, and 1.5-2 million until 2030.
